Vibrant West African drum and dance group ASIKO have exploded onto Melbourne’s music scene with a new edge. Led by the incomparable Lamine Sonko, their frenetic rhythms and precise percussive brilliance create an energy that captures and enfolds their audiences. Sonko himself is truly gifted and versatile, coming from a family of well known entertainers who are highly respected internationally, and inspiring his audiences with his spectacular acrobatics and master drumming. It is Sonko’s seemingly endless and infectious energy that binds the sensational ASIKO. The band also features the multi-talented Shonah Honeyhill Sonko who combines drum, song and dance elements. Simon Lewis and Federico Martinengo hold onto the rhythm with various forms of traditional West African percussive instruments. Bringing to life the drum, dance and song of Senegal, their performances are always a colourful and electrifying spectacle - a celebration of the joy that is music and dance.
